Susan D. Burgamy

June 18, 1956 - May 31, 2026

Susan D. Burgamy passed away Sunday evening, May 31, 2026, at Brightmore Hospice surrounded by her loving family. A memorial service was held Sunday afternoon, June 7, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. with a visitation for family and friends one hour prior to the service at Gray Memorial Chapel.

The reverends Ronnie Griffin and Andy Pickins officiated. Burial was private Monday, June 8, 2026, at Gray Memorial Gardens.

Susan was born on June 18, 1956, to the late Harold and Eugenia Clay Carnes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Terry Lee Burgamy Sr., and son, Terry Lee Burgamy Jr. and brother, James Franklin Carnes. She retired from Georgia College and State University.

She was retired from Georgia College and State University. Susan was a devoted wife, mother, MeeMee, great MeeMee and friend. She was a lady of deep faith and always put others before herself.

Susan lived her life for Jesus and her family. She found her greatest joy being around her family and friends. Because of her warmth and deep caring personality, people drew to her and wanted to be around her. Also, she loved children and crochet blankets for all her grandchildren and anyone who wanted one. Susan’s life was a testimony of joyfulness, humility, loving faith-filled, joyful and compassion she generously shared.

Susan is survived by her loving daughter, Evelyn (Genie) Dukes; daughter-in-law, Tonya Burgamy; grandchildren, Autumn (Kristina) Himmelheber, Jacob Burgamy, Craig Smith (Emily Gardener), Corey Burgamy, Tabitha Smith, Joseph Burgamy, and great-grandchildren, Bentley Himmelheber, Paige Smith, Raelyn Burgamy, Ivey Smith, Bailey Himmelheber, Jacob Burgamy Jr., Michael Smith and sister, Janice (Larry) Ballew. Her special fur baby, Lilly May Burgamy.
