Woodland “WooWoo” Hamilton, 72, of Gray, GA, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Hart’s Mortuary at the Cupola, with a reception following the service.
Family greeted friends for a time of visitation on Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, at Hart’s Mortuary at the Cupola, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Woodland was born on Sept. 2, 1953, in Lagrange, GA to George and Viola Rudolph Hamilton. He graduated from Troup County High School, where he played football and wrestling.
He also was the certified senior lifeguard and was crowned Homecoming king.
Woodland served 23 years as a courageous fireman at the Lagrange Fire Department, retiring as a lieutenant.
He saved many lives in Lagrange and was known to say, “No one is going to lose their life on my watch.”
Woodland was not only courageous in serving his community, but he was also brave by fighting his own battles with addiction. He was a member of Narcotics Anonymous and was clean for 35 years, serving as a sponsor for many.
He was a 15-year veteran of the cement industry. He loved spending time fishing, hunting, and being with his family. Woodland was an amazing husband, father, brother, and friend. He will be greatly missed.
Woodland is survived by his wife, Stephanie G. Mercer Hamilton; his children, Woodland M. Hamilton II, Aaliyah G. Hamilton, and Ciara A. Hamilton, all of Gray, GA; his brothers, Warren Hamilton of McDonough, GA, and Houston Hamilton (Gail) of Gray, GA. He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Vinson Hamilton and Sylvia Hamilton Chandler.
