Dear Editor,
The First Baptist Church of Gray would like to express its appreciation for the extremely generous donation made to the Jesus’ Hands ministry by the Jones County Kiwanis Club. The motto of the Jesus’ Hands effort is “So no child goes hungry until Monday.” In Jones County, at least 130 children get their best meals at school. Food can be scarce in their homes and sometimes they are quite literally hungry until they return to school on Monday.
During the school year, Jesus’ Hands provides seven nutritious meals in individual bags so the schools can place those bags in the backpacks of these children so they will not be hungry until Monday. FBC Gray provides meals to Gray Elementary, Jones County Pre-K, Dames Ferry Elementary and Turner Woods Elementary. Immanuel Baptist provides the same service to Mattie Wells Elementary. Jesus’ Hands has a number of sponsors beyond the membership of FBC-Gray. Farnsworth Insurance, First Baptist Preschool, Salon 129, Elliot Machine Shop, Gray Memorial Chapel, Rancher’s, Ingles, Gray Methodist Women in Mission, the Macon East District Women’s Missionary Society, the Jones County Kiwanis Club and the Tri-County EMC have all contributed generously to this effort.
Jesus’ Hands began providing meals to children towards the end of the 2023-24 school year and has provided 4,608 meals so far. This school year we expect to provide exponentially more. We appreciate the generous support of our sponsors and request all people of faith pray that there will be a day when no child goes hungry until Monday in Jones County.
Sincerely, Pastor Randy Darnell First Baptist Church, Gray
