My property
Dear Editor,
Commissioner Sam Kitchens states according to The Jones County News as of Aug. 10 that “it is the commissioners responsibility to have ordinances that fit all situations. But he doesn’t want to get in the business of telling people what to do on their own property.”
My question to you Mr. Kitchens is what good are the code ordinances that we supposedly have in this county if they are not made to tell people what they can and can’t do on their own property. If rules are not in force then they are not worth the paper they are written on and if need be I will be happy to refresh your memory of Jones County’s codes. However, I should not have to do this because you of all people as a commissioner should be aware of these ordinances.
I have a nice little stream running behind my home and I’m just wondering if it would be alright if I set me up a liquor still and started making some illegal whiskey if no one can tell me what I can do on my property? Just wondering!
Sincerely, George Scoville

Patriot Day
Dear Editor,
Monday, September 11, is Patriot Day. The public is invited to Carol’s Park at 6:00 pm, for two purposes: prayer for America and to recognize and show appreciation to our local First Responders. They are the ones who respond during times of crisis and great need and we praise God for them.
Most people reading this remember exactly where they were, and what they were doing, when terror struck our nation on September 11, 2001. It was a day of pure evil unleashed on our nation. On that day the nation and the world witnessed many, both trained and untrained, become heroes as they risked their lives to help those in peril. It was a day we realized the importance of First Responders, so it is fitting that we show our appreciation for their sacrifices.
Mark your calendar, come to the park on Monday, and be a blessing to them. Yes, it will likely be warm, but we are not going to melt. This is a small sacrifice on our part compared to the sacrifices they and their families make on a regular basis. Bring a folding chair and perhaps a beverage.
Cry Out America is a prayer initiative observed on Patriot Day. On this day, as “One Nation Under God” millions across the nation gather to Cry Out to God for the soul of America. It is a time for all Americans to remember the sacrifices of yesterday, seek God’s face for the restoration of godliness today, and redeem generations from the strongholds of darkness that would engulf them tomorrow.
Joel 1:14 is our call to prayer. This is a special time for all citizens of Jones County and surrounding areas to assemble, in one accord, and Cry Out to the Lord for the future of our state and nation. It is time to make lasting impact on our nation, through targeted prayers for revival and a Christ awakening in every sphere of our society.
The state of our union is critical. Only God can revive America. As Christ’s representatives, we must boldly declare God’s Word over America, beginning with our community and state. His Word is alive, contains all wisdom, and holds the instructions on how to accomplish this. Some scriptures that direct us in this matter are 2 Chronicles 7:14, 1 Timothy 2:1-2, Philippians 4:6-7, and James 5:16. Please take a moment and refer to these scriptures.
We are the Body of Christ! Each one of us are to be first responders to those who are lost and dying. We MUST be more serious about the work for His kingdom. That is the least we can do for Jesus, the truest and greatest First Responder. Jesus has sacrificed more than any of us will ever know. He is not just a superhero, He’s a supernatural hero!
In Matthew 25:40, Jesus said “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” This verse is for you and me today!
Our inclement weather location is Gray Baptist Chapel, located across from Carol’s Park, at 6:00 pm.
Sincerely, Debra Hall
