Bible reading continues
Dear Editor,
Did you know that in the early 1500’s, church authorities in Western, Europe, regarded the Bible as a “forbidden book” for the common people? A desire by some brave reformers desired, along with the invention of the printing press, made a way for common men and women to read, and understand, the Scriptures in their own language.
William Tyndale is credited with translating the original Greek and Hebrew languages of Scripture of the New Testament into a language the people could read for themselves. Putting himself at great personal risk, he diligently pursued this ambition, even though church officials condemned this act and King Henry VIII opposed the translation. Thousands of copies of Tyndale’s Bible version were confiscated, and publicly burned, by authorities.
Tyndale nearly completed his translation of the Old Testament before he was betrayed by a close friend. He was arrested, imprisoned, and suffered, under extreme conditions in his cell. Not to be stopped, Tyndale requested a lamp, his Bible, dictionary, and study texts, so that he could continue his life’s mission.
On October 6, 1536, after more than a year in prison, Tyndale was strangled, and then burned at the stake. His dying prayer was “Lord, open the king of England’s eyes.”
Tyndale’s prayer was answered three years later when King Heny VIII sanctioned the printing of an authorized version of an English Bible, the Great Bible.
Eternal salvation is free, but it cost Jesus His life.
Readable, understandable, translations of the Bible came at a high cost as well. I cannot fathom living in these times without access to the written Word of God. It is my comfort, peace and strength, containing the words of wisdom and warnings in right living. It is my moral compass.
We are entering the last few days of the 2023 Word of God, Speak! Bible Reading. Please, do not let this opportunity, and the blessings associated with it, pass you by!
It is such an honor and privilege that many Christians have never been allowed to experience.
Around the world today, there is still much persecution to those who believe, who risk torture or execution, to simply possess even one page of the Holy Scriptures!
Pray for them! Praise God, for His blessings of religious freedom in America! May we always have this freedom!
The daily reading will continue through Saturday, October 7, at Carol’s Park, 9 AM – 7 PM. Text 478-4561597, or email us at KBOMIN092@gmail.com if you wish to reserve a time, OR simply come to the park.
We plan to have a time of celebration around 5ish on Saturday, before reading Revelation 22, together, to close out this year’s ministry event. Please join us!
Sincerely, Debra Hall
