My wife and I have recently purchased property in Gray and plan to build and move there later this year.
I subscribed to The Jones County News last fall and have enjoyed reading the paper each week. However, as a veteran and former government employee I have found the editorial cartoons in the last two issues quite offensive, and I am trying to decide if I should cancel my subscription.
The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is a federal law enforcement agency under the United Stated Department of Homeland Security (DHS). It’s stated mission is to conduct criminal investigations, enforce immigration laws, preserve national security, and protect public safety. ICE is trying to keep us safe and enforce existing federal laws under extremely trying circumstances with little or no support from some State and Local government officials and law enforcement officers or news agencies.
This week’s unsigned cartoon and last week’s cartoon imply that ICE officers are shooting innocent peaceful protesters. However, as it turns out this has not been the case. The lady in question in the first incident traveled from out of state to actively participate in the demonstrations in Minnesota trying to create a confrontation so her companion could film it. At the time she was shot, she was attempting over an ICE officer with her vehicle. The man in the second incident was caught on film a week earlier kicking the taillight out of an officer’s vehicle and violently resisting arrest.
The following week he went to a demonstration with a loaded weapon. If you are going to a demonstration intending to create a confrontation with law enforcement officers, you should leave your loaded weapon behind.
In closing, I want to state that I am totally disgusted with yours and most mainstream media’s efforts to dehumanize and demonize our brave officers of the law in favor of a radicalized left-wing minority. And unlike your cartoonist I am more than willing to sign my letter.
