He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes… and I received sight. (Jn 9:11).
The blind beggar now could see, healed by Jesus. But to the blind man Jesus was just a man called Jesus. He knew nothing more of Him. This is odd because Jesus was well known in Jerusalem, but for some reason to the beggar, Jesus was just A man that is called Jesus.
How many people in Jones County only know Jesus as A man that is called Jesus? Just a good man, just a good philosopher, just a good humanitarian, just some religious teacher. Just a man whose name is to be used as a cuss word.
Like the beggar, they fail to see Him as the Christ, the Son of the living God. They miss the part about Him being God in the flesh.
They ignore that He is the Savior, the resurrected Lord who can save any sinner that comes to Him in repentance.
To our beggar’s credit, he finally came around to who Jesus is. In v11, Jesus is just a man. In v33, he realizes that Jesus is more than a man, someone from God. And in v38, he sees Jesus for who He really is--the Son of God. The beggar with his newly found sight given to him by Jesus, no longer sees Jesus as just as man but now as Lord.
Pray that the people of Jones County will be given sight by Jesus to see Him as the Son of God, the Savior who can save them from all sin.
