“O give thanks unto the LORD: for He is good: for His mercy endureth for ever.” (Ps 136:1) The psalmist tell us to direct our thankfulness to the LORD. The word LORD means Jehovah.
This is not a title but is God’s personal name. We are to personally render thanks to our Creator.
God wants us to have a personal relationship with Him, not just a “Creator to created” association.
He wants to be our Father, but this personal relationship comes only through faith in Jesus. No Son Jesus, no Father God.
God is good. This good carries two meanings.
Pleasant and Holy. God does good things that are pleasant to us, things that benefit our physical and emotional well being. Stuff that delights us. But God is holy. God wants to conform us to His holiness and sometimes He must use unpleasant things to accomplish that. But even this conforming (our fiery trials) is good in that it is good for us.
He didn’t save us to just keep us out of Hell, but to conform us into the image of Jesus (Rom 8:29).
God is merciful. Mercy is NOT getting the condemnation we justly deserve. We’ve earned judgment, but God gives never ending mercy through His Son Jesus.
Truth is, God’s mercies are new every morning to help us meet the new day.
And those mercies never run out (Lam 3:22-23).
