Distance runners win big at Lady Trojan Invitational

GREYHOUND TRACK & FIELD

When it comes to distance running events in middle Georgia, the threat of the Lady Greyhounds will have to be dealt with. The fact was cemented even more at last Thursday’s Lady Trojan Invitational hosted by Peach County, where Jones County’s girls tracksters pulled off one-two sweeps in the 800- and 1,600-meter events in addition to winning the 4x800 relay event.

The Lady Greyhounds didn’t just sweep the top-finish spots.

Season-bests were also set.

In the 800-meter run, Lilly Palmer and Camryn Wommack finished first and second with times of 2:36.44 and 2:39.43, both of which were season highs. The result was similar in the 1,600 meters. There.

Addison Robinson won first with a time of 5:25.06. That season-best was followed by Isabella Sanchez’s 5:35.64, also a season-high.

Those same four took home another first place in the 4x800 relay with a time of 10:36.28 being good for the win. Palmer, Sanchez, Robinson and Wommack also finished fifth in the 4x400 relay.

In Thursday’s other relay events, the Lady Greyhounds posted a pair of finishes in the top eight. Mylan Ragins, Mariya Mims, Mya Anderson and Kemora Sydney ran to a seventh-place finish on a time of 53:42. The 4x200 relay team’s time of 1:56.58 earned a finish of eighth with those on the relay being Anzoria Bivins, Mims, Zandrea Thomas and Yariah Webb.

The Lady Greyhounds’ success extended to field events as well.

Mya Anderson was third in the long jump at 16-0 with another third place from Angel Dennis in the discus at 77-4. Diamond Sinclair was seventh in the discus with a throw of 69-1 and 10th in the shot put at 28-1.

The middle school season wrapped up with Shelby Caves finishing first on the beam with Savannah Kent and Addison Snook tying for second in that event. Kent was second in all-around and on the bars with Clara Newby second in the vault.
