With an over capacity crowd in Chattanooga eagerly awaiting the main event, all eyes were on Torrez Finney to see if he’d keep his MMA record unbeaten.
Going against Caleb Crump, Finney focused on the task at hand, winning in the third round Saturday night to run his overall pro record to 5-0.
“It was a really good show; that was fun,” Finney said. “I think that this could be the last regional fight I have, so to do it in a main event with a packed house, that was fun.”
Finney won each round of Saturday’s bout and has still not lost a professional round.
Finney carried a steady confidence into the fight, but that level of can-do was well measured between being sure of his abilities while also not overlooking an opponent. In Finney’s mind, the opposition allowed him to show not just what he can do in the cage but also how his overall fighting realm has progressed over time.
“With Caleb, I knew he’d be a solid opponent. He’s a good grappler, and I knew he’d be the best grappler that I’d have faced. He has skill sets that are where I like to fight,” Finney said. “I was able to take him down at will and really showed my stand-up fighting and striking. One time when I took him down, I cut him on his elbow and opened him up.”
Finney also credited his stamina as another key in the fight as he faced someone from Colorado that is more used to higher elevations.
“I really utilized all aspects of my game. I was able to use my cardio to keep a high pace,” Finney said.
Finney is optimistic to have some exciting news in the future as he seeks a move up in the MMA ranks.
Another dominant win certainly does not hurt those prospects.
“I think it helped me. My agent was there, my management team was watching, and I heard lots of good things,” Finney said. “Some good things could be happening next. Right now it’s just in talks, but hopefully, something big will be coming with the next upcoming fight.”
