With the basketball season quickly approaching, the past was celebrated on Saturday afternoon at the JCHS gymnasium. An alumni game was staged between a pair of pre-selected teams, giving those that formerly suited up for the purple and gold to reunite, catch up, share stories from days past and have fun with a bit of basketball.
The two rosters, which played two 20-minute halves of basketball, gave fans plenty of excitement with the purple team surging late to win 69-67 before festivities ended with a photo of both teams and a three-point contest.
New Lady Greyhounds head coach Takeo Gray, who helped organize this year’s alumni game, said he hopes that it becomes an annual event. Gray, as well as JCHS principal Dennis Woolfolk, a former JCHS student-athlete and player, were among those enthusiastically watching on Saturday.
“I really enjoyed it. Me and Coach Woolfolk, we coached a lot of these guys,” Gray said. “So, it was good to see everyone back together. It was exciting.”
Gray, by the way, noted that there had been requests for him and Woolfolk to suit up for Saturday’s game.
“They tried (to get us to play) this year, but Father Time said we couldn’t do it,” Gray said.
