In more ways than one, the Greyhounds came home from Saturday’s McIntosh Invitational with first place.
Not only did Jones County win first place out of 22 teams, but four wrestlers won first place in their respective divisions with two others taking second. Overall, 10 grapplers placed, a key building point in the early stage of a season.
JCHS found great success on the lower end of its weightclass entrants. There, Dawson Walker placed second at 106 pounds with first-place showings coming at 113, 120 and 126 pounds by way of Hunter McCleskey, Noah Pieterick and Nate McDaniel to go with Arrie Martin also taking first place.
Those were hardly the only top finishes by the Greyhounds, who used all of those placements to pile up points throughout the day. Luke Thompson claimed second at 285 pounds, Shooter Lumley took third in the 144-pound class with fourth places by Barrett Rosenberger at 215 pounds and John Rackley at 150.
Also placing were Hunter Pittman claiming fifth at 138 pounds and Nate Wilson finishing seventh in his 138-pound bracket as well.
JCHS won’t be relaxing much in the coming weeks. After Saturday’s Granite Scramble in Elberton, the Greyhounds will wrestle at the Archer Thanksgiving Scramble on Nov. 27 before hosting West Laurens Nov. 30 outdoors in downtown Gray in the Main Street Dual.
