MIDDLE SCHOOL HOUNDS
Gray Station Middle School put the exclamation point on an unbeaten season last Wednesday at the GSMS gymnasium, controlling the final quarter to beat Lamar County 28-22 and capture a league title.
“It’s a great feeling. They’ve worked hard all year. They’ve been together here since sixth grade. This is special,” Gray Station head coach Zac Kimbrough said. “This was a big goal for them.”
The win came inside a buzzing gym at Gray Station, with a near-capacity crowd including JCHS Lady Greyhounds basketball coaches and players.
“It was a great atmosphere. A lot of people came out to support them,” Kimbrough said. “That really made a difference in the end.”
After a back and forth for three quarters, putting Lamar County up 22-21, GSMS stepped up in the clutch, converting three of four free throws to go ahead 24-22 with 2:07 to play.
A handful more shots made from the charity stripes coupled with multiple stands on the defensive end secured the coveted conference crown for Gray Station.
