After a pair of losses to regionleading Locust Grove last week, the Greyhounds reached what could be safely classified as a fork in the road for the 2026 season. Jones County’s response? To pick itself up off the mat with gusto.
Less than 24 hours after a 13-1 defeat at the hands of Locust Grove, the Greyhounds picked up a pair of wins, 13-0 against Woodland and 11-3 a day later against a Woodland team ranked in the top four of the region standings.
JCHS, which hosts Union Grove on Thursday and Stockbridge on Friday, hosts Ola on Monday before the two teams play at the Mustangs’ home field next Wednesday in a two-game set that will have substantial implications for second place in the region.
Ola is 4-1 in the region with Jones County at 5-2.
In a fight for leverage in the region, every game matters, and last Wednesday on the road against Woodland was one of them, as the Greyhounds held the Wolfpack to two hits. Jones County teed off at the plate from there, pushing across three runs in the first inning, five in the second, two in the third, and three in fourth.
But there was little time to reside in the afterglow of the shutout of Woodland, as a road game against Union Grove, who split last year’s two games with Jones County, awaited.
The Greyhounds came alive in the third inning, pushing six runs across after trailing 2-1 following one inning. The Greyhounds added four runs in the sixth inning to stash the win away.
Cooper Rice had yet another strong outing on the hill for Jones County, yielding four hits and striking out eight in five innings with Landen Wilson tossing a pair of hitless innings.
At the plate, Davis Upshaw had two hits for Jones County to go with a triple and two RBIs with two runs also being driven in by Micah Howard and Rice. Single hits came from Jonathan Scarbary, Gavin Simon, and MJ Lane.
