Greyhounds begin preseason with pre-dawn practice

GRIDIRON HOUNDS

Before dawn on Monday morning, the sun had already risen on the preseason window of practice for the Greyhounds.

Less than two weeks before an Aug. 9 preseason scrimmage against Mary Persons, Jones County took the field on Monday on the first day that teams are permitted to practice in full pads. It came after a summer of seven-on-seven activity, practicing in shorts and helmets in addition to workouts with outside competition.

Coming off a 8-4 season, the Greyhounds will have a dearth of returning skill position players to lean on, including quarterback Devin Edmonds, receiver Javion Solomon, running back David Little, linebackers DJ Ingram and Zacarri Thomas as well as defensive back Javion Butts.

Butts, Thomas and Solomon have already set their college plans, having verbally committed to a trio of ACC schools with them having pledged to North Carolina, Boston College and Duke.
