CROSS COUNTRY
This past fall, the region’s cross county scene was dominated by Jones County as the Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds won both region titles prior to both finishing in the top seven of the state.
That standard of success, not surprisingly, was shown in the all-region selections that were also dominated by Jones County. The Greyhounds took four of the seven boys all-region selections with the Lady Hounds taking all but one of the girls first-team slots. Camryn Wommack was named girls cross country runner of the year with coach of the year honors going for Greyhounds head coach Geoff Moore.
Boys first-team selections were Austin Sullivan, Kyle Whipple, Luke Thornton and Tyler Marshall. The second team was also dominated by JCHS with those named being Joshua Barber, Grady Newby and Justus Boyd and Gavin Robinson being an honorable mention.
The girls all-region first team may as well have been called the Lady Greyhounds with six of the seven spots going to JCHS runners. Selections were Camryn Wommack, Addison Robinson, Lilly Palmer, Kaitlyn Malone, Anna Hinson and Emily Patat. Addison Newby was a second-team selection, as well.
