GOLF HOUNDS

The formats were a bit different for the Greyhounds on the golf course last week.

The result, however, was the same. Jones County not only ventured south to win the King of the Hills Tournament in Houston County, but the Greyhounds also claimed a match win on Thursday against Houston County with an overall team score of 156, eight strokes better than the 164 of the Bears.

Thursday’s win saw four sub-40 scores for Jones County, led by Dixon Dowling’s 38, rounds of 39 from Cooper Perry and Cash Bearden, and a 40 from Hayes Miller.

Thursday’s win followed up the showing from earlier in the week at Southern Hills Golf Club where Jones County’s overall score of 141 won first. The Greyhounds’ low score was from Miller at 38 followed by Perry’s 40. Other top scores for JCHS were Holden Nipper and Ethan Lewis with rounds of 41, Bearden with a 42, and Dowling’s 46.

In girls golf action, the Lady Hounds dropped last week’s match to Houston County with a round of 153 compared to the Bears’ 141. JCHS was led by Sarah Davis’ 46 and rounds of 50 and 57 by Kendyl Thomas and Ensley Barnes.
