Hounds hosting nation’s winningest football program to begin 2026

GRIDIRON GREYHOUNDS

The 2026 football season will begin with rigor for the Greyhounds, and it’ll kickoff with America’s winningest high school football team coming to Gray.

With a region comprised of six other teams, Jones County was afforded the opportunity to seek a total of four non-region games after having just one the last two years. The Greyhounds did just that, lining up a list of teams that’ll undoubtedly test the mettle of Jones County to begin the season. Of the Greyhounds’ four non-region foes, all of them were state playoff teams last year, two of which advanced to the semifinal round.

Jones County will begin the season at home. After facing Valdosta on Aug. 21, Peach County arrives a week later. The Wildcats, who compete in the state’s highest classification, lost in the semifinals to Buford last year with Peach County making it to the second round last season.

After that, Greyhounds fans will get to prove their reputation for strong support on the road. After non-region games at Houston County and Burke County, region play begins at defending region champion Locust Grove Sept. 18 and at Ola on Sept. 25.

Burke County will be the second semifinalist from 2025 on the Greyhounds’ schedule with Houston County a being quarterfinalists last season.

But as much as Jones County will play on the road in the season’s first half, that’ll counterbalance afterwards. An Oct. 2 home game against Union Grove will be three of four contests at home to close the season. After playing at Perry Oct. 9 and an Oct. 16 open date, JCHS hosts Eagles Landing Oct. 23 and Warner Robins Oct. 30.

The Greyhounds, who’ll conclude spring practice with an intrasquad scrimmage, will also host Monticello Aug. 7 in a preseason scrimmage.
