TRACK & FIELD HOUNDS
Long distance, short distance or field events. Regardless of the type of discipline that last Thursday’s meet at Jackson called for, the Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds found themselves near the front, posting a combined 20 finishes of either first or second.
It helped the Greyhounds finish first overall and the Lady Greyhounds come in second. Jones County’s next scheduled meet is Friday at the BSN Sports Golden Eagle Invitational hosted by Eagles Landing.
Both teams led the way in the 100- and 200-meter events.
Mya Anderson won first in both for the Lady Hounds with times of 13.13 and 27.07.
It was the Tyler Stewart and Zion Ragins show on the boys side. Ragins and Stewart finished first and second in the 100 meters with times of 10.54 and 10.67 with Stewart’s time of 22.29 winning the 200 meters. Kyle Whipple added to the Greyhounds total with a 42.49, winning the 400 meters. Landry Fletcher finished third in the girls 400 meters, running a 1:07.62.
The Greyhounds also won the 4x100 relay to go with Jeremiah Edwards finishing third in the 110-meter hurdles, timing in at 18.02 The strong showing continued for Jones County in long-distance events.
Addison Robinson took home first in the 800 meters for the Lady Hounds at 2:37.86 with Lilly Palmer and Camryn Womack sweeping the top two spots in the 1,600 meters with times of 5:38.47 and 5:40.15.
Katlin Malone’s and Addison Newby’s times of 14:26.59 and 15:00.67 were good for third and fourth in the 3,200 meters. Austin Sullivan and Tyler Marshall gave the Greyhounds a one-two sweep in the 1,600 meters with times of 4:47.32 and 4:37.69. Both were third and fourth in the 800 meters, running 2:11.53 and 2:12.19.
Jones County dominated the 3,200 meters, claiming five of the top six spots. Finishing second through sixth were Luke Thornton, Tyler Marshall, Clay Lacy, Gavin Robinson and Aaron England with times of 11:01.37, 11:01.59, 11:09.11, 11:26.71 and 11:31.20.
Three second-place finishes came the way of the Lady Hounds in field events with Kimmya Epps, Mya Anderson and Shania Bryant doing so in the discus, long jump and shot put. Ethan Butts and Austin Hanks were first and second in the discus. Jaivon Solomon was first in the high jump and third in the triple jump, and Butts was second in the shot put.
