Hounds looking ahead after facing region frontrunners

HOOP HOUNDS

The Greyhounds’ draw of the order of their region opponents did them zero favors last week as play within the region began.

Jones County began its region slate against arguably the region’s top two teams, Eagles Landing and McDonough, both of which are ranked in the top 10 of GHSA Class AAAA.

The Greyhounds’ opposition ended up being as good as advertised with McDonough winning 81-46 and Eagles Landing prevailing 60-25. JCHS (0-6) capped the week with a 52-32 loss on Saturday to Stockbridge, A slow offensive start riddled the Hounds against McDonough, being held to eight points in each of the first two quarters, resulting in a 41-16 halftime lead. Jones County picked up the offensive pace in the second half, outscoring the Warhawks 20-18 in the third quarter to close the gap.

The good news for the Greyhounds is that the upcoming schedule does not hold the same rigor as last week’s. Jones County played Tuesday at Locust Grove and goes to Ola on Friday and Woodland next Tuesday. Those three teams began this week with a combined one region win.
