Progress continues for the Greyhounds in the soccer arena as the season progresses. After a pair of losses the week before by or close to double digits, that gap closed significantly last week.
After dropping a 4-0 decision to Mary Persons, Jones County scratched the scoreboard for the first time of the season in Friday’s region opener at Ola, losing 6-2.
It’s part of an intangible piece of growth so far this season for a Jones County team with just one senior on the roster.
“It’s young kids getting minutes that are needed. It’s one game at a time and just getting a feel of the game,” Greyhounds head coach Clark Sweatt said. “It’s one step at a time.”
And given that Jones County has a young, yet eager roster, a key point of emphasis is the start a process to elevate the program over time for the Greyhounds, who play Friday at Eagles Landing and host ELCA on Tuesday.
“Commitment and how bad they want it are big things for us right now, both in practice and in games,” Sweatt said. “Our slogan is ‘It starts with us.’ It has to start somewhere. We have a really good young group.”
