Howard, Lady Dawgs advance

ALUMNI UPDATES

Destin Howard and the Lady Bulldogs are bound for the regionals again.

Georgia, which is 31-20, will play in the regional hosted by Duke this weekend, playing Coastal Carolina on Friday to begin the double-elimination format. The winner of the regional will face the Florida regional winner for a spot in the Women’s College World Series.

Off the field for Georgia, Howard was recently appointed to the 2025 SEC Community Service Team, and she served as Georgia’s SAAC president for the 2024-25 year. Through SAAC and her work with the Georgia Way, Howard has volunteered her time in various ways such as working with the Georgia Way pajama drive and serving as a CCSS sports mentor. She has visited local schools as part of Georgia Reads Day and assisted with the annual Spooky Dawgs event.

Aniya Canty ended the season as a leader in multiple offensive categories for Florida A&M, which lost in the SWAC tournament championship game. She rated third on the team in doubles, second in triples and fourth in homers.

At GCSU, Keagan Baxter hit .255 and his six homers were third-most on the team while his .461 slugging percentage ranked second on the team for the Bobcats, who also got contributions during the year from Aiden Payne.

A trio of former Greyhound hurlers helped Gordon State go 32-26 and finish as conference tournament runner-up. Dawson Harris went 6-4 and was third in the team in appearances with Brody Gordon having seven appearances on the year with Bo Mansfield also bolstering the depth of the bullpen.

Jacob Thompson’s career at Brevard College came to a close following time there in which his honors included multiple conference player of the week honors, an all-tournament selection and capping his final season in which he took on a lion’s share of work, pitching a team-high 57.2 innings and going 2-2 with a complete game.
