Georgia Military College is reaping the benefit of seeking out talent from Jones County. In the Deercroft Spring Invitational held near the end of March in Wagram, N.C., JCHS product Nick Johnson was among the Bulldogs leaders, finishing second overall as he was powered by a 9-under-par score of 65 on the event’s second day, eagling hole No. 14. He finished one stroke off the lead as the Bulldogs finished fourth overall against a field made up of mostly four-year college teams.
Two other former Greyhounds also helped the effort. Brad Hammock’s round of 75 in the first round was sparked by his first hole-in-one of the season, giving him a fifth-place finish. Hammock followed that up in the second round with a round of 76 and two birdies to give him yet another top-10 finish on the year. Austin Mills, another Jones County product, bounced back from a tough first round to post a round of 82.
As a team, the Bulldogs had 28 birdies and two eagles, the most of any team in the event comprised of 12 entrants. GMC takes the course again April 17 in the GCAA Championship at River Forest Country Club.
