MIDDLE SCHOOL WRESTLING
The ranks of middle-school wrestling took over the JCHS Gymnasium on Saturday with seven teams on hand for the Jones County Middle School Takedown Tournament.
Jones County took first out of seven teams as seven different Jones County wrestlers winning first place in their weight classes.
Although competition was one clear goal on Saturday, another was getting mat time for wrestlers, whether they were new or experienced. For that reason, teams were not limited to one wrestler per weight class which resulted in wrestlers from the same school on occasion going against each other in their weight-class bracket.
Overall, Jones County’s wrestlers earned 191 points. First-place finishers were Noah Pieterick at 112 pounds, John Rackley at 125, Chase Hasty at 130, Noah Heath at 138, Hunter Hardwick at 171 and Barrett Rosenberger at 190 pounds.
Other top finishers were Harrison Page and Brantley Rosenberger second and third at 80 pounds, Nate Wilson third at 119, Conner Lipford third at 125, Luke McCoy second at 171 and Luke Thompson being second in the 190-pound class.
The next scheduled meet for Jones County’s middle school wrestlers is Nov. 15 at Lamar County.
