Lady Hounds back on track following two big wins

The first half of the Greyhounds region schedule wrapped up Wednesday at first-place Ola, leading right into Thursday’s home game against McDonough that will begin the second side of the region schedule.

Jones County began the week at a 6-4 overall record and 5-3 in the region, placing it in fifth place. That means, between now and the end of the region schedule, the Lady Greyhounds will have to make up enough ground of break into the region’s top four.

JCHS generated plenty of momentum to do just that last week, easily routing a Woodland and Eagles Landing while a matchup against Stockbridge was postponed due to weather. The two wins by scores 17-2 and 13-0 helped JCHS rebound from a pair of losses to Union Grove and Eagles Landing Christian the week before.

“The girls responded and did a nice job of getting back on track,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Tripp Burt said. “We did the things that we preached about and that we need to take care. They did a good job on all of those things.”

Coming into last week, the Lady Hounds coaching staff keyed in on details, such as at-plate approaches and minimizing miscues in the field. Burt said that focus in those areas showed in last week’s two wins.

“We had better at-bats and did a better job of going up there with a plan,” Burt said. “Defensively, we did a better job of not making one mistake turn into two.”
