Lady Hounds battling for region lead

Following last week’s first region loss of the season that took away hopes of an unblemished region title, the Lady Greyhounds wasted little time in not just moving forward but aiming to not let history repeat itself.

In terms of games against region frontrunners, Tuesday’s 3-2 loss at Locust Grove gave JCHS a split ahead of this past Tuesday at Union Grove.

But the Lady Hounds, who finished last week at 9-3, are hardly a team of despondence. JCHS head coach Mikayla Coley points out that despite the loss, there was not a lot of finger-pointing to be found.

“Everyone took ownership in it. Everyone felt that they played a part in the loss,” Coley said. “It’s a different response than I have ever probably had. I had kids come up and mention, ‘What do you think about this?’ I had five or six talk to me about a new formation that we worked on (Friday).”

Last Friday served as a chance to forge ahead, and the Lady Hounds took full advantage, flooding the opposing end of the field in a 10-0 rout on Stockbridge.

“We were trying some new formations based on some things that kind of went against us,” Coley said. “We had some things we needed to work on, we possessed the ball a lot and did not take any big shots.”
