Lady Hounds blank Northside

SOCCER HOUNDS

The Lady Greyhounds are off to a 1-1 start to begin the regular season.

A team laden with youth, including starters that before two weeks ago had never played soccer on the high school level, the Lady Hounds earned a shutout last Tuesday, blanking Northside 4-0 for a road win. Jones County fell 8-0 last Friday to Lamar County, dropping a contest to a Trojans team that’s part of an early-season schedule designed to ready the Lady Greyhounds for the most important part of the season that begins March 3 with region play.

Next week’s scheduled matches include Monday at home against Stratford and on the road at Ace Charter next Thursday. The Lady Gryphons advanced to the second round of the state tournament last year with Lamar County coming off a quarterfinal appearance last year.

Hounds fall to Northside amid early-season tests

With a young roster, the Greyhounds are in the midst of being tested early in the season as Jones County builds toward the region opener on March 3 against Locust Grove.

That continued last week in a 9-0 loss to a seasoned Northside team. Jones County, which is looking to win will now look ahead to chances to be tested against robust competition in the coming matches, including Monday at home against Stratford Academy and next Thursday at Class A powerhouse Ace Charter.
