Lady Hounds bounce back to roll over GMC

LADY GREYHOUNDS

Given the fact that both of the Lady Greyhounds’ region losses last year came outside of regulation, one possible version of a response to last Tuesday’s shootout loss to Eastside would be one of wallow and despair.

But that’s not the case for this Jones County team.

“We fell short. We played a really good game against Eastside,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Mikayla Coley said. “We lost three games in overtime on PKs last year. At least this time we tied it up and had to go to sudden death. So, maybe we’re moving in the right direction.”

Two days after a 2-1 loss, one in which a first-half goal came via Daisy Blanton, the Lady Hounds quickly put that disappointment in the rear-view mirror, handling GMC Prep with ease, winning 6-1.

Coley points to a resilience built up by the Lady Greyhounds by way of their adopted approach that was drawn out at the start of the season.

“That was something we talked about even going back to the beginning of the year with our whole ‘mudita’ theme and stuff like that,” Coley said. “For us, it’s trying to play for each other and not press as much. That’s just the outlook going into things like that.”

The Lady Hounds struck early and often, holding the Bulldogs scoreless into the late going of things.

“We had a few goals we wanted to achieve, and most of those we did achieve,” Coley said.
