The final week ahead of the postseason was anything but going through the motions for the Lady Greyhounds.
With region play and spring break complete, Jones County had a buffer prior to the state tournament, which began this past Tuesday in a firstround match at Walnut Grove. That match’s winner will face either Druid Hills or Perry in the second round.
To help stay sharp ahead of their return to the postseason for the first time in three seasons, JCHS faced one team that came up just shy of the postseason, Upson Lee, as well as another that will head to the state tournament in Dutchtown.
Jones County found hard luck in overtime again against Upson Lee, losing in a shootout. It was the Lady Hounds’ third loss of the year in overtime. The Lady Greyhounds also lost 3-1 to Dutchtown, running their record to 11-5 on the season prior to the state tournament, their best season in four years.
Greyhounds conclude season
The Greyhounds season came to an end in a 4-0 loss to Upson Lee. JCHS should return a team with lots of experienced gained as this year’s roster boasted approximately 20 freshmen and sophomores. Key losses following this season will be Yassine Errahimi, Brian Sorrell, Sam Delcid, Ethan Butts and Shawn Lunsford.
