Lady Hounds keeping short memory as region race accelerates

GREYHOUND SOFTBALL

There’s a need in sports to have a short memory and forget the past. The Lady Greyhounds are in the midst of that with the region schedule picking up pace.

After last Tuesday’s 3-2 loss to Locust Grove, the Lady Hounds, 3-1 in the region as this week began, had little time to reflect back. Two days after the road loss to the Wildcats, JCHS got back going with a 12-0 win over Eagles Landing. The Lady Hounds took control early, leading 1-0 after an inning before tacking on five runs in the second and third and others in the fourth to wrap up the win.

Jones County began this week 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the region, tied for fourth with Locust Grove as another key region matchup awaits Thursday against Eagles  Landing Christian, tied for the region lead after last week.

“You have to put that behind you,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Tripp Burt said. “There are a lot of games in a short time, so when that happens, you have to kind of put that behind you and get ready for the next day.”

To help stay sharp, Jones County scheduled a doubleheader this past Saturday against Coffee.

Even though the second game was unable to be finished due to weather, they took on a strong team in the Trojans, who were among the final 16 remaining teams in AAAAA last year. Coffee won Saturday’s first game 8-2.

“We have a couple of big region games coming up,” Burt said. “Coffee is a really good team. They swing the bats well and have a great pitcher. It helps us see what we need to fix and work on.”
