GIRLS HOOPS
When a team hosts a holiday basketball tournament, it usually involves extending the long arm of kindness and hospitality.
That did not entail on the court for the Lady Greyhounds during Monday’s opening day of the Morris Bank Christmas Tournament.
Simply stated, Jones County played the role of a rude guest, routing over and around Crisp County, 93-55, easily settling a season high for most points scored by the Lady Greyhounds.
With its offense clicking and defense winning early battles for loose balls and turnovers, it was all Jones County early and often. Little changed from there with a 27-3 JCHS lead through a quarter and 51-17 at halftime.
That allowed the Lady Hounds to rest key players as the game went on, a welcome gift for any time to start a three games in three days stretch. In doing so, Jones County emptied its bench with a total of 11 players scoring at least a point.
Even with some players getting rest on Monday and the fourth quarter shortened by two minutes due to the mercy rule, scoring in double figures was easily accomplished, led by the 19 points of Amaris Ridgeway, 12 of Autumn Coleman, 11 of Mya Anderson, and 12 from Shania Bryant.
Monday’s win followed Friday’s 50-30 region win against Ola where Ridgeway led JCHS with 22 points, 9 rebounds and five steals.
