A postponement from the week before forced the Lady Greyhounds to wait a bit longer before kicking off region play. The wait ended up being worth Jones County’s while.
After getting on the board in the first half, two more tallies in the second half sealed the final margin in a 3-0 win against Eagles Landing in the region opener for JCHS.
“It’s really good. This is kind of the time of your season when you want things to start to kind of come together with how you work and practice,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Mikayla Coley said. “The hard work that they put in, it showed (Friday), for sure. A lot of things that they have been working on, it showed.”
The win improved the overall record for Jones County to 5-3 ahead of two region games this week – Tuesday at Union Grove and Friday at home against Ola.
Whether it was early in the match or later on in the going, offensive pressure yielded multiple measures of success against Eagles Landing. Not only did it prevent the Golden Eagles from materializing much offensively, but it also put shots in the back of the net.
Already up 1-0 after a half of play, that offensive push put multiple shots of goal, one of which gave JCHS a 2-0 lead on an own goal. The Lady Greyhounds all but put the game away with less than 26 minutes to go. Coming off a corner kick on the Eagles Landing end of the field, Jones County kept the rebound in, and Reagan Sorrell took advantage by powering the shot into the back of net for a 3-0 JCHS lead.
“These kids work so hard,” Coley said. “To keep the pressure on them like that, I was very impressed.”
