Lady Hounds run record to 8-1, enter top 10

HOOP HOUNDS

The Lady Greyhounds posted two more lopsided wins to run their record to 8-1 overall and 5-0 within the region.

Now, that dominance is drawing attention.

Jones County began the week rated 10th in GHSA Class AAAA in at least one state ranking ahead of this week’s span of games that wraps up Friday at Woodland leading into the Christmas break.

JCHS is the only team in its region currently in the top 10 and was also the only one in the region yet to lose a game against a region opponent. The next closest competitors as the week started were Stockbridge and Union Grove, both with one loss entering the week.

Jones County beat Stockbridge 55-45 on Dec. 7 for the Tigers sole region loss.

The Lady Hounds made quick work of last week’s outmatched opponents, routing Locust Grove 82-24 and taking down Ola 63-38.

JCHS flustered Locust Grove defensively, holding the Wildcats to single digits in each quarter. That enabled the Lady Hounds to complement their effort on the offense end with Mya Anderson, Aubrey Norris and Liberty Pennamon each scoring 13 points with the rebounding effort led by Kynnidi Houston’s eight and four each from Norris and Pennamon.

The win against Ola came via a long-distance effort. Anderson, Autumn Coleman and Aubrey Norris combined to drain a combined 10 three pointers, helping the Lady Hounds lead 20-10 after a quarter and 34-17 at halftime.

Anderson’s 19 points led the way with Coleman and Norris adding 13 and 12 points.
