Lady Hounds take down Ola for OT win

A season ago, the region came down to a four-way race between Jones County, Locust Grove Ola, and Union Grove. For that reason, gaining an early upper hand in the region standings carries a heavy weight of importance.

The Lady Greyhounds, whose two region losses last year came outside of regulation, found themselves on a good side of the law of averages last Friday, taking down Ola 2-0 for a road win in overtime in their region opener.

“Our kids played so hard and for each other,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Mikayla Coley said. “They are really embracing ‘mudita,’ and it’s showing in their results.”

The Lady Hounds and Mustangs battled to a scoreless tie, forcing overtime. That’s where Jones County stepped up in a gigantic way, getting single goals in each of the 10-minute overtime periods to snag the win.

JCHS, which began the week with a 5-1 overall record, plays Friday at Eagles Landing and hosts ELCA on Tuesday.
