Lady Hounds top Westside in scrimmage

GIRLS HOOPS

The Lady Greyhounds controlled the pace throughout last Thursday’s preseason scrimmage against Westside Macon, winning 55-48.

Jones County led 44-26 through three quarters before the Lady Hounds worked their reserves into the game, allowing the Seminoles to close the margin.

Getting a taste of winning had a level of satisfaction for Jones County but not as much as being able to zero in on pre-set goals entering some outside competition before the regular season.

For example, the Lady Hounds used each of the first three quarters to work on specific defensive alignments, holding Westside to single digits in two of those three quarters.

JCHS led 14-8 after a quarter and 28-13 at halftime.

“I liked our intensity and execution. As long as we competed, we were going to feel good about it. We got what we wanted from it,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Takeo Gray said. “We kind of scripted what we wanted to do defensively, zone in the first quarter, man in the second, and press in the third.”

Kamiyah Adams led the Lady Hounds with 15 points as Aubrey Norris and Liberty Pennamon added nine and seven. Raegan Prophet came off the bench to score eight points.

The fourth quarter enabled the Lady Greyhounds to work reserves in, something that may not pay off as much in the immediate future but later this season and beyond.

“This is a scrimmage, so we are also looking at down the road when everyone is 100 percent,” Gray said. “We have a lot of first-year players and some ninth-grade players who may not see a varsity game, but we wanted them to get that experience.”

The Lady Greyhounds play Lee County on Saturday at the Hype-South Invitational at Central High School in Macon.
