Eyes were on the road ahead last Tuesday when Jones County wrapped up the regular season on the road against Houston County.
Both the Lady Greyhounds and Bears entered the day with bigger aspirations in mind. Houston County will enter the state playoffs, which began this week, as a region champion with JCHS going for the road upset at one of the top teams in AAAA, Eastside.

“They threw a good pitcher and made good adjustments. We just have to do some little things to give ourselves a chance,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Tripp Burt said. “You’re playing a region champion before (this) week, so it helps you know what to mentally prepare for.”
Jones County entered that best-of-three series being plenty tested after Tuesday at Houston County, dropped an 11-1 decision, a final score that was larger than how close things were early on.
The Lady Hounds trailed 3-0 after the opening innings prior to getting on the board, trailing 3-1 before a handful of miscues allowed the Bears to blow things open and win 11-1.
“We talked about how the score was not indicative of how we played,” Burt said. “A few things go different here and there, and it’s a 3-2 ball game.”
