The euphoria still hung over the Lady Greyhounds a week ago. But in the afterglow of the emotional win against Ola from the week before, moving on to the task ahead awaited. And Jones County took on those challenges, handling business as expected in a 10-0 region win last Tuesday against McDonough before pouring it on in the second half a day later in a 7-1 triumph against Northside.
“It’s an emotional rebound. That win takes a big emotional weight off of our shoulders for the rest of the season, but this week it was just about going after it and taking care of what they needed to,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Mikayla Coley said. “I kept telling them, ‘It’s like an emotional hangover, like when you’ve cried all night because some boy broke your heart or whatever, and you still have to get up the next morning and keep going.’ That’s what they did.”
Last Tuesday’s road win at McDonough ran Jones County’s region record to 2-0, but key contests to determine region supremacy await next Tuesday at Locust Grove and March 24 at Union Grove.
“We try to take the season one week at a time,” Coley said. “Part of that is because I have ‘mom brain’ and I can’t think that much further ahead, but they know that those will be our next challenges. We have not stressed about that yet.”
