Jones County High School’s graduation was not the only reason for David Little to celebrate last week.
The two-sport athlete will also be moving on to wrestling in college, having recently signed on to wrestle at Brewton- Parker College in Mount Vernon. The Barons sent one wrestler to NAIA nationals last year with two being wild card selections.
Little, primarily a running back for Jones County on the football field, caps his career after being part of the Greyhounds wrestling program that has steadily raised expectations, including a school record for placements in the state traditional tournament and fifth-place finish in state duals.
“David’s been a great addition to our wrestling program,” Jones County head wrestling coach Adam Gillhouse said. “I’m extremely proud of how he’s grown not just as a wrestler, but as a person.”
Little reached the 100-wins milestone as a Greyhound wrestler and qualified for this year’s state tourney and took fifth in the state as a junior.
Now, the collegiate level of wrestling awaits.
“I wish that we could have had him with us for all four years,” Gillhouse said. “There’s not a doubt in my mind that he’ll continue to work and be successful.”
