The middle school cross country season moved into conference tournament mode last week, and Jones County’s runners were either at or near the front of the pack. The combined team from Jones County’s middle schools won first place in the conference championship meet with the boys taking second with the event being contested on Jones County’s High School’s home course.
Similar to throughout the season, Jones County’s girls runners had no issue finishing near the front, taking five of the top eight finishing positions. Mary Barnwell claimed an individual title as she finished first overall in front of Phoebe Palmer in third, Charleigh Feizet in fourth, Baleigh Gowan in seventh and Kennedy Marshall in eighth. Other top finishes came from Emma Hammond in 13th and Peyton Tate in 18th.
The boys’ finish was led by Aiden Davis finishing fifth with other top showings from Owen Wommack in eighth, Cruz Hudgins in 11th and Brooks Scott in 17th.
Jones County also won first in the JV girls race and second in the boys JV event.
