Jones County’s tennis teams bounced back nicely following Tuesday’s sweep at the hands of one of the region’s top teams to find a pair of wins on senior day.
Last Tuesday’s loss to Union Grove, one of the region’s top teams, did not appear to have much effect on Thursday against GMC Prep, with the Greyhounds winning 3-2 and Lady Hounds taking a 4-1 win.
Roman Hanania, who got the Greyhounds lone win against Union Grove in No. 1 singles, did likewise against GMC by a score of 8-0. Although Fred Ogletree and John Mack Rowland dropped close 8-5 decisions in singles play, a pair of 8-0 doubles wins got Jones County the win. Ethan Hill and Nick Brown prevailed at No. 1 doubles with Wesley Maynard and Kaleb Durden winning at No. 2 doubles.
The Lady Hounds won a pair of matches in both singles and doubles in their 4-1 win against GMC Prep. Anna Hill’s 8-4 triumph came at No. 1 singles with Ciara Stephens winning wireto- wire 8-0 in the No. 2 match. In doubles play, Lyndsie Hanner and Chloe Scarborough took an 8-6 win with an 8-3 victory coming from Arleigh Henderson and Mallory Herndon.
Both teams were scheduled to conclude the regular season on Tuesday against Eagles Landing with the region tournament set for April 11-13 in McDonough.
