FOOTBALL HONORS
Last week’s annual Macon Touchdown Club Spring Jamboree brought accolades for a pair of Greyhounds.
The event, which recognizes top players and coaches from middle Georgia and beyond, features Georgia head football coach Kirby Smart as guest speaker.
The festivities included recognition of the Macon Touchdown Club’s annual Super Seven, and Greyhounds receiver Zion Ragins was among those honored. A two-time state track and field champion in the 100-meter run and rated as a four-star football recruit by multiple recruiting services, Ragins has been offered by schools including Georgia, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Texas and Oklahoma.
Greyhounds graduating senior Drew Jones was named a recipient of the Bobby Gene Sanders Memorial Scholarship.
Jones carried a 4.0 GPA while being a three-year starter in football for the Greyhounds while also being part of the Jones County baseball team. He played both linebacker and running back for JCHS, averaging more than five yards per rush and having more than 150 tackles.
