Ragins soars to win 100 and 200 meters at Eagles Landing

TRACK & FIELD

The field was more competitive and deeper for Jones County’s track teams at Friday’s Golden Eagles Invitational. But with a bigger stage, Zion Ragins was up to the task, leading the Greyhounds individually as he won in both the 100and 200-meter events. Ragins and Tyler Stewart, who was ninth in the 100 meters, gave JCHS a pair of top-10 finishes with times of 10.84 and 11.25 with Ragins’ first-place time in the 200 being 21.85.

The Greyhounds showed speed in other ways, as well. A time of 8:42.56 took third in the 4x800 relay with a 42.08 being good for a second-place finish in the 4x100 relay.

Jones County sent a strong message in distance events as well. In the 3,200-meter run, a trio of Greyhounds finished within the top eight, led by Luke Thornton’s time of 10:36.82 that came in third, one spot in front of Tyler Marshall with a time of 10:38.20. Austin Sullivan timed in eighth at 10:58.53.

Jeremiah Edwards was eighth in the 110-meter hurdles, running an 18.65.

It was a clean sweep for the Lady Greyhounds in the 3,200 meters with JCHS taking the top three spots. Lilly Palmer was first with a time of 12:20.39, followed by Addison Robinson and Camryn Wommack with times of 12:39.39 and 12:43.11 The Greyhounds were also strong in field events.
