With her determined play on both ends of the floor, Amaris Ridgeway was a focal point of what made the Lady Greyhounds successful during her career at JCHS. That was capped the past two seasons by a berth in the Sweet 16 and this past year a trip to the Elite 8 with Jones County playing for a Final Four appearance on its home floor.
Ridgeway’s impact on the Lady Greyhounds attracted the attention of multiple collegiate programs. Allen University was among them, and Ridgeway was joined by coaches, teammates and others in the JCHS cafeteria on Friday for what many high school student-athletes dream of – signing a national letter-of-intent to play in college.
Located in Columbia, S.C., Allen is a NCAA Division II program that competes in the SIAC. That means that the Yellow Jackets compete against multiple programs fairly close to home for Ridgeway. The past year’s conference opponents for Allen included Fort Valley State, Albany State and Savannah State.
