Robinson leads way for JCHS at Chick-fil-A Invitational

TRACK & FIELD

The field of entrants was bigger than anything that the Jones County track and field teams had seen so far this season at Saturday’s Eagles Landing Chick-fil-A Invitational. In fact, it was the first formal time competing for some track athletes since the season began.

But in a field of around 50 teams, there was not much dim to the shine of Jones County’s distance runners.

Addison Robinson was the class of the field in the girls 3200 meters, winning first with a time of 11:28.27, and Camryn Wommack gave Jones County two top-five finishes in the event as she took fifth at 12:41.42. In the girls 1600 meters, Isabella Sanchez was sixth with a run of 5:29.69 with the showing also led by Makenzie Snook’s 12th-place 6:05.98.

But there was more to the performance of Jones County than that. Ziyan Miller ran to an 11th-place finish in the 100 meters as she ran 13:76 while Mackynzie Simmons running 1:09.35 to take 17th in the 400 meters.

In girls relay events, the Lady Hounds took 14th in the 4x100, 17th in the 4x200 and 16th in the 4x400.

Diamond Sinclair led Jones County in the girls’ field events, finishing ninth in the shot put with a throw of 32-5.

JR Clark led Jones County’s top finishes in short-distance events, taking 17th in the 200 meters with a time of 22:77. JCHS placed three finishers in the top 13 of the 3200 meters, led by Luke Thornton’s seventhplace 10:44.76 in addition to Shaun Williams coming in 11th and Tyler Marshall 13th by way of times of 10:55.76 and 10:56.00. Andrew Marshall and Grady Newby came in 13th and 17th in the 1600 meters with times of 4:45.46 and 4:54.13 with relay finishes of sixth, 20th and 16th in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400.
