Thanks to a consistent effort across the board, Jones County’s boys track team placed third out of 16 teams in last week’s Eagles Landing Golden Eagle Invitational.
The Greyhounds had a total of 11 finishes in the top 10, led by Luke Thornton and Clay Lacy finishing first and second in the 1,600 meters, Keith McCray placing second in the discus and fourth in the shotput. Tyler Marshall was also fourth in the 1,600 meters.
The strong showing in multiple events went beyond that. For example, Kameron Karner and Travis Miller claimed fourth and seventh in the 100-meter run, Armani Norris was fourth in the 400 meters, with Quintarian Gore in fifth and Tray Stephens finishing eighth in the long jump. JCHS was also fifth in the 4x100 relay and ninth in the 4x200.
The Lady Greyhounds also seized on the chance to shine. Tanner Watts and Mary Barnwell finished third and sixth in 1,600 meters to go with Jones County also taking third in the 4x800 relay. Samiyah Harris was fourth in the 400 meters, and Ranae Matthews placed eighth in the 100 meters. In field events, top finishers for Jones County were Anzoria Bivins taking eighth in the long jump and Kalayah Lawson bringing home a finish of 10th in shot put.
