Isabella Sanchez didn’t just run her way to another personal-best performance last Wednesday at the Viking Invitational hosted by FPD in Macon. She also ran her way into history.
In a hotly contested meet, the Gray Station Middle School runner set the county middle school girls record, running a 12:54.81 to win second. Not only does she hold the record, but her name will in adorn a banner inside the gymnasium at GSMS.
Sanchez led Gray Station as both the boys and girls teams finished third, posting numerous personal-best showings in the process. With seven high-water marks being set in the girls race, GSMS was also led by top finishers Sable Teague in eighth with a time of 14:38.30, Becca Durrett’s 14:53.90 in 13th, Mary Barnwell in 24th with a time of 15:54.46 and Raegan Prophet’s 25th-place 15:58.51. Each of those runners, also set personal records along with Audree Brown, Peyton Tate and Aranna Smith. The overall team effort was also paced by a 28th-place finish from Banks Dyer.
The boys’ third-place finish was led by finishing of eighth and ninth by Owen Wommack and Chase Ham with personal- record times of 13:17.27 and 13:17.31 plus a 21st from Camden McWirter and a 13:51.55, also a personal best. Rylan Fuller carried home a finish of 27th, running a 14:18.26. The overall showing went much deeper as 13 others set personal records, led by Lan Schomber in 36th, Gage Pittman in 38th, Ammi Thomas, Hayden Bell in 47th, Carter Owens in 50th along with personal-record finishes from Caleb Waters, Nick Paschal, Luke Oliveros, Emmitt Michum, Hunter Ivy, Abel Durden, Aiden Davis and Kaleb Arnold.
