Three is not a number that is usually strained to achieve in the sport of tennis, but it’s exactly what both the Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds secured last week with each team winning respective matches against Woodland, Eagles Landing and Hampton.
The Greyhounds beat Woodland and Eagles Landing 4-1 prior to edging Hampton 3-2 with the Lady Hounds winning their first two matches 5-0 before also holding off Hampton, 3-2.
Against Woodland, the Greyhounds got singles wins from Matthew O’Neal 4-1 and by Kalyb Durden on an 10-8 tiebreaker. Wins by scores of 8-3 and 8-1 in doubles play came via Wesley Maynard and Landon Lagroon as well as Evan Randall and Drew Holder. Evan Carr and Michael Nugyen also won an exhibition match in a 6-4 tiebreaker.
Facing Eagles Landing, O’Neal and Durden won 8-0 while Maynard and Durden won 8-4 and Randall and Holder prevailed 8-5. Against Hampton, a 9-7 and 8-3 win by Sid Giles and Durden in singles play combined with an 8-6 victory by Randall and Holder in doubles secured the win.
It was a top-to-bottom dominance for the Lady Hounds against Woodland and Eagles Landing in a pair of 5-0 wins. In singles play against Woodland, Lyndsie Hanner won 8-0, Chloe Scarborough took an 8-6 win with Mallory Herndon winning 8-0. Emily Parks and Nahlia Richardson won in doubles play, 8-4 with Macie Milholen and Genna Maki taking an 8-0 victory.
Hanner, Scarborough and Herndon claimed singles wins against Eagles Landing by scores of 8-5, 8-1 and 8-2. In doubles matches, Parks and Richardson held on to win 9-7 with Milholen and Maki sweeping in a 8-0 victory.
Herdon’s 8-0 singles win aided the 3-2 against Hampton as JCHS got doubles wins by scores of 8-5 from Parks and Richardson as well as 8-0 by Maki and Milholen.
