With more than 40 teams to compete against, the field in last Saturday’s McEachern Invitational presented the arguably thickest crop of teams that the Greyhounds and Lady Hounds have seen so far during the track & field season.
But the JCHS runners in the distance events were not rattled by that rigor of competition. Combined in the boys and girls 800-, 1600- and 3200-meter events, Jones County runners placed in the top five a combined five times.
Two of those finishes came from Addison Robinson, coming in fifth in the 800 meters with times of 2:25.01 and third in the 1600 meters at 5:19.68. Overall, the Lady Greyhounds had two finishes in the top 15 of all three events as Isabella Sanchez was ninth in the 800 meters and 12th in the 1600 with Lilly Palmer’s 11:41.06 being good for fourth in the 3200 with Camryn Wommack 14th in the same event.
The Greyhounds dominated the 3200 meters with Luke Thornton running a 9:56.03 to finish second and Tyler Marshall in fourth place at 10:05.03. Gavin Robinson took 13th in the 1600 meters, running a 4:35.89.
Jones County more than held its own in the field events at McEachern. Jaivon Solomon was second in the triple jump at 46-2.5 with Austin Hanks coming in third in the shot put and sixth in the discus with throws of 49-10.75 and 134-8.
Jones County is scheduled to compete Thursday at Hawkinsville in the final meet prior to region competition April 30-May 2 at Ola.
