Volley Hounds wowed by new locker room in surprise reveal

In a surprise reveal on Friday morning, the JCHS volleyball players walked down the hallways of the JCHS Gymnasium’s ground level into a brand new locker room, one that makes it very clear that the space belongs to the Lady Greyhounds’ volleyball program.

“One of my girls, when she walked in, she said, ‘did we win the lottery?’ That just about sums it up,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Leah Bodnarchuk said.

Yes, after getting dressed in non-descript locker rooms or spaces used to other needs, the Volley Hounds have a space of their own.

“It was like the best thing ever. As a player, it makes you feel really appreciated,” said senior Ziyan Miller. “To see something like that, it’s really amazing.”

The new locker room includes graphic displays on the wall with the volleyball logo, JCHS volleyball lettering above the lockers, and dedicated lockers for players with nameplates.

“That to them makes them feel like the school sees them and they want the best for their program, and here’s a dedicated space,” Bodnarchuk said. “You don’t have to get dressed in a bathroom or equipment room.”

The challenge on Friday morning? Keeping it secret from players.

That ended up being fully revealed as the Volley Hounds streamed in, wide-eyed in seeing their new digs.

“It was amazing,” Bodnarchuk said. “It was so hard to keep the secret, and I wanted it to be a surprise for them.”

Mission accomplished.
