From the standpoint of competition, it’s arguable that the Greyhound wrestlers by far faced their toughest challenge last weekend just outside of Greenville, SC. The Southern Slam presented the toughest overall field of wrestlers for Jones County.

Jones County’s middle school wrestlers came home from a northward trip on Saturday with a runner-up finish in the Junior Bobcats Dual at Clear Creek Middle School in Ellijay.

Georgia dominated Alabama from start to finish Saturday in the SEC Championship game. The No. 3 Bulldogs (12-1) avenged an earlier regular-season loss to No. 9 Alabama (10-3) with a 28-7 victory at Mercedes-Benz Stadium this past Saturday to secure their second consecutive conference title.

A season ago, McDonough won the region title, and that included a 35-point win against Jones County. On Tuesday night, even in defeat, the Greyhounds shot out a strong message to the region that it would be a tough team to reckon with.
